obeah woman is what we call a woman who practices obeah...
From Wikipedia:
Obeah (sometimes spelled "Obi") is a term used in the West Indies to refer to folk magic, sorcery, and religious practices derived from Central African and West African origins. As such, Obeah is similar to Palo, Voodoo, Santeria, rootwork, and hoodoo. Obeah is practiced in Suriname, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Belize, the Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and many other Caribbean countries.
Obeah is associated with both benign and malign magic, charms, luck, and with mysticism in general. In some Caribbean nations Obeah refers to African diasporic folk religions with admixtures such as Hindu puja; in other areas, Christians may include elements of Obeah in their religionObeah is associated with the Spiritual Baptist churchand the word Obeah, although not the practice of Obeah.
From The Oxford Dictionary of Caribbean English Usage by Richard Allsopp:
A set or system of secret beliefs in the use of supernatural forces to attain or defend against evil ends; it is [African] in origin and varies greatly in kind, requirements, and practice, ranging from the simple, such as the use of items like oils, herbs, bones, grave-dirt and fresh animal blood, to the criminal (though rare), such as the sacrifice of a child's life; it is carried on or "worked" by hidden practitioners in order to gain for their clients success, protection, or cures for mysterious illnesses, as well as cause trouble for, or the death of an enemy.
i love the concept, I would have liked a little more contrast to have her stand out more from the background, its a little dark for me.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Although `DEVlANT joined our community only a year ago, he's made sure to make his mark in as many ways as possible. His inquisitive mind and enthusiastic personality is reflected in every part of the community which he reaches out to. Always eager to bring suggestions and feedback to us in a positive way, `DEVlANT shows a maturity way beyond his years. It's with great pleasure that we award very first Deviousness of 2010 t...
